Take My Lead--Dreams Do Come True!!

I can't imagine what it would be like to get to see through young eager eyes someone make something as magical (at the age of 6 or 12) as a wedding dress from scratch. That has been my motivation as multiple fittings concluded with me finishing the most important dress of a woman's life. I grew up watching the modern adaptation of The Parent Trap— one of my ultimate favorite movies. For the longest, I thought Lindsay Lohan was indeed a twin!! I know, as someone might respond to me in the south, "Bless my heart!".

That movie had more influence on the trajectory of my career than I'd ever know. I believe what we consume socially, emotionally, and physically soaks into us as children and we essentially emulate in our adulthood what we've absorbed from our childhood. Unfortunately this entails both the good and the bad. This is why exposure is so important when rearing a child. What movies do they watch? What music do they listen to? What hobbies have they tried? A lot of a child's future is dependent on their e
xposure to the world around them. I've witnessed children being exposed to too much way too soon. But, I've also seen the latter end of the spectrum where a child hasn't been exposed to much of anything, and this can consequently stunt their ability to "Dream" or most emphatically to "Dream BIG".

While, I was born in the 80's when seatbelts were simply a suggestion, and playing outside was expected, I am grateful for all of the ice cream runs, water fights, and barefoot summers with my siblings. We didn't have a ton of money but we truly had community. What a blessing it is to have a neighbor stop by for a glass of lemonade or a meal after church. All this leads me to remember that wealth isn't what leads to dreaming big!! It's what we make from the breadcrumbs of our experiences. I remember one Sunday afternoon following church, I got the notion to take the kids hiking. My husband helped get the kids ready. We packed snacks, got water bottles, and sprayed them down with bug spray. The boys were SEW elated!! I had a moment where we looked out at the water and it was beyond inspiring. No sermon or person could match the beauty of all the colors melding together and the sense of family that wrapped around me. I was empowered to #justkeepsewing!! I'm sure you noticed how I borrowed this from Dory and swapped out swimming for sewing. All this to say, when life is complacent, or you're doubting your parenting or level of expertise, don't give up #justkeepsewing!!
Be adventurous, go on a hike, find a really cool park, or a fabulous camp!! Our Summer Camp Registration is live and I'm beyond pumped to be a witness to dreams coming alive in our next generation. The possibilities are endless. Our camp theme is centered around the idea that "Dreams Do Come True". The goal is to expose campers to a variety of inspiration throughout the week. Letting them sculpt, draw, design, paint, collage and SEW much more!!
We will conclude the week with our first ever Art Show where they get to show guests just how creative they have been. SEW join us this summer, the last week in June as I continue to grow our young aspiring artists to Dream Big, click here!
